Denver Man Killed in Pedestrian Accident

Roger L. Abney, a 41-year-old man from Denver, was hit and killed on a highway in Caldwell, Idaho on Wednesday morning. CBS 4 Denver reports that Abney “was crossing state highway 19” early in the morning “when he was hit by a pickup driven by a Caldwell man.” Abney was rushed to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Investigators know that he was not crossing at a crosswalk or intersection but are saying little else at this time.

According to PEDSAFE, nearly 5,000 pedestrians were killed in accidents involving vehicles in 2003. The majority of pedestrian accidents occur outside intersections and designated crosswalks and take place in the early morning or late afternoons. Speed and alcohol impairment also play a role in a majority of fatal pedestrian accidents.

  1. I can’t imagine what this man’s family most be going through right now. We as motorists need to take responsibility to be on the look out for pedestrians. As pedestrians we need to cross at crosswalks and intersections.
