3 Killed in Interstate Roll-over Accident

The Seattle Times is reporting that a couple from Sunnyside and their 8-year-old nephew were killed in a car accident early Sunday. The accident happened early Sunday morning on Interstate 182 in Richland. The Washington State Patrol Says that the driver, 32-year-old Joel Barajas, was on his phone moments before the family’s SUV swerved off the highway and rolled seven times. Joel Barajas, his wife Bertha Barajas and their 8-year-old nephew, Christian Valdez, were all pronounced dead at the scene. The couple’s three children were also in the vehicle. An 8-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy suffered various injuries and were transported to a local hospital. The couple’s 2-year-old son was unhurt in the accident.
