According to The Coloradoan, a woman was killed and a passenger was severely injured during a devastating off road accident in Fort Collins. The accident occurred near Horsetooth Reservoir off of Larimer County Road and Shoreline Drive. The police have reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove off road and became airborne while tumbling down an embankment before finally crashing into some rocks. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and her passenger was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Neither victim was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. A boxer puppy survived the crash, however and was claimed by family members soon after the accident. The incident is still under investigation by the police but speeding and alcohol are being considered in the case.

CBS Denver reports that a woman driving on I-25 near Fort Collins drove into a wire fence along the highway while putting on make-up. Jennifer Lamblin was driving a Honda Oddysey with six passengers, including five children at the time of the accident. The man in the passenger seat, the only other adult in the car, was steering while the driver applied her make-up. Ms. Lamblin, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle when it crashed. Only one of the five children in the van was properly restrained.

Toyota Recall Effects United States Consumers

Four Story Building Destroyed by Fire in Fort Collins


A fire broke out early Monday morning causing the total destruction of a four story building in downtown Fort Collins. According to, the fire started at 3:30a.m. and firefighters were still struggling with containing the fire throughout the morning. This building contained residential apartments and was also used for commercial space. The building was undergoing construction and no one was in the building at the time of the fire. The fire began to spread to other surrounding buildings, however and the building directly north also caught on fire. This building contained people who were able to escape the flames. No one has reported any injuries during either fire. Firefighters requested people avoid the downtown area while they continue to get the fire under control.

Van Hits Semi Leaving 6 Dead and 7 Others Injured


A van carrying 13 passengers crashed into a tractor trailer Thursday morning in Kit Carson County. According to 9 News, the van was traveling southbound on Highway 287 when it struck the rear end of a stopped semi. The passengers of the van consisted of the driver, 57 year old Howard Mitchel, and his foster children. The driver and 5 of the children were killed in the accident and the remaining 7 occupants were taken to local hospitals with severe injuries. The surviving children, ranging in age from 3 to 13, are being cared for at Childrens Hospital in Denver and Swedish Medical Center in Englewood and are reported to be in serious to critical condition. None of the victims were wearing seat belts although it was determined that the surviving 3yr old was in a child safety seat. The children were on their way to school when the incident occurred. The driver of the semi, 26 year old Jared Kauffman, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. It was reported that the accident occurred in a construction zone and it is still being investigated whether speeding was a factor. Even though this accident occurred in the eastern front, accidents just like it occur in Ft. Collins everyday.

Fort Collins Driver Kills 23-Year-Old in Head On Collision


Daniel Derby, 29, Fort Collins has been charged with a variety of crimes after he drove his Honda sedan head-on into oncoming traffic. The Fort Collins car accident occurred off of Timberline Road and caused serious injuries to those involved. Derby was traveling southbound when he crossed lanes, side-swiped a vehicle, and ran head-on into a Ford Explorer. Twenty-three year old Jessica Whipple was transported, along with Derby, to a nearby medical hospital. Whipple suffered major trauma and later died due to the extent of her injuries. Derby is being held on a variety of accounts which include driving under the influence and vehicular assault, according to an article by the Denver Post.

Rollover Accident Sends Mother and Baby to Hospital


A rollover accident that occurred on I-25 resulted in sending a mother and child to the hospital. Reports from the Coloradoan stated that, the white Honda CR-V was driving reckless on the highway before losing control and flipping several times.
