Ms. Lamblin, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle when it crashed. Only one of the five children in the van was properly restrained.

By contrast, nearly seventy-five percent of the survivors of those fatal accidents ARE properly restrained. The importance of wearing a seat belt cannot be overstated, and neither can the importance of ensuring that children in your car are properly restrained in safety seats, or, if they are too big for safety seats, are wearing seat belts. Also, the website reports that about 20% of traffic accidents and 16% of fatal traffic accidents involve a distracted driver. Remaining focused on the road and the car while driving is extremely important.
