The family of a man who died as a result of terrible bedsores in a nursing home has won a $3.2 million verdict against the nursing home, according to the Denver Post. The man, who was a resident of Pioneer Healthcare Center in Rocky Ford, entered the nursing home in 2009, with Parkinson’s disease. At first, he was able to walk around the facility with some help, until a large bedsore developed late in 2010. Afterward, he was confined to his bed. The staff of the center apparently hid the wound from his family, until one day a nurse’s aide who was concerned for the man’s life told his son while he was visiting. When the son tried to get the man moved to a hospital, the nursing home administration protested. At the hospital, it turned out that in addition to the bedsores, he was also malnourished and dehydrated.

When you make the decision to entrust the care of your elder loved one to a nursing home, you are trusting that the nursing home will care for you family member in the best way possible.
