CBS Denver reports that the Denver Police are seeking information about a hit-and-run driver who rear-ended a motorcycle before disappearing.  Late in the evening at 20th Ave and Little Raven, the motorcyclist was struck from behind by a car, causing it to hit the car that was in front of it. The original driver took off rather than face responsibility. There was no word on the motorcyclist’s condition, although he was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Motorcycle accidents can be incredibly dangerous, given the inherent lack of protection that a motorcyclist has compared to a passenger in a car or truck. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reports over 4000 motorcyclists killed in traffic accidents every year. Because motorcycle represent a relatively low percentage of total vehicle miles traveled (VMT) in the United States, the fatality rate based on VMT is higher for motorcyclists than for occupants of cars or trucks.
